How we make a difference

How we make a difference

One of RectoVerso's core values is sustainability.

We are a slow fashion brand of which each step of the production process takes place in Belgium. From garments to stitching. Every stitch, loop and thread finds its origin in our own hometown of Deinze.

But RectoVerso goes beyond that. We want to go fully transparant and clarify how we are making a difference.

01. Water

Liebaert Textiles has its own water purification installation to purify 100% of the water used during our processes. The purified water meets the highest environmental requirements.

The fashion industry is responsible for around 20% of the global wastewater by dyeing fabrics and treatment.

02. Energy

Liebaert’s energy is provided by 100% renewable energy sources as of 2020. As a result, we waste 456g of CO2 per KWh less.

Our new production site is fitted with state of the art solar panels able to produce up to 25 OOO KWh per year. Enough to provide 80 average households of electricity for an entire year.

Textiles production is the 2nd most polluting industry in de world. In 2019
the total greenhouse gas emissions from textile production was 1.2 billion tonnes.

The industry uses fossiel fuel based electricity as their primary source. This causes a great deal of greenhouse gas emissions.

03. Collection

RectoVerso is a slow fashion brand that wants to counteract overproduction by only launching one collection per year with a limited number of pieces.

Fast fashion industries are stepping up the pace of designing and production. According to The True Cost the world now consumes about 80 billion new pieces of clothing every year.

04. Carbon emmission*

Every step of RectoVerso’s supply chain is done in one place; from fabric production, to garment production, to distribution. This assures the shortest supply chain possible and a low impact on the environment.

Each stage of the supply chain has an impact on the environment. When we look at shipping the impact is considerably high.

Ships are the most common means of transport, they handle about 90% of global trade. They are responsible for approximately 3 to 4% of human-caused carbon emissions.

05. Working conditions

The entire production of RectoVerso takes place at Liebaert Textiles in Belgium, which guarantees our employees earn a fair wage for their work. The minimum wage in Belgium 2020 is €1745,88

The minimum wages in de global garment industry are considerably low. The wages are between $26 and $304 per month.
